Army Private First Class David Fahey Jr., a former Norwalk resident who was killed Monday in Afghanistan, will be honored in a ceremony this spring by the Norwalk Veterans Memorial Committee. Fahey’s name will be added to the Shea-Magrath memorial plaque at Calf Pasture Beach in a ceremony on May 22. The memorial honors those from Norwalk who have been killed in combat [died during wartime service]. Fahey’s name will be the 170th and the most recent since Specialist Wilfredo Perez, who was killed in Iraq in 2003. Fahey’s name will also be added to a plaque at City Hall honoring all Norwalk veterans. The ceremony at the Shea-Magrath Memorial will take place on May 22 at 1:00 p.m. The program will begin with a band concert by the Brien McMahon High School Wind Ensemble at noon. The ceremony gets underway at 1 p.m. with the presentation of massed colors. The first musical selection will be the National Anthem, and during the course of the program, the BMHS Wind Ensemble will play a medley of service songs, the Navy Hymn, Taps, and To the Colors. The memorial is named for Norwalk natives Daniel Shea and John Magrath, both Medal of Honor recipients.
