In February and March of 1945, 100 heroes from Connecticut gave their lives in the Battle of Iwo Jima. The battle was one of the fiercest and most consequential battles of World War II. On that small volcanic island, they displayed extraordinary courage, determination, and devotion to duty in the face of overwhelming hardship.
There is a monument in Connecticut in honor of these 100 men. The address is 1 Iwo Jima Way, in New Britain. Part of the City of Newington is also part of the property. It’s worth a visit to honor “The 100” and the monuments to Chaplains and Corpsmen. A photo of the monument and grounds is at the bottom of this page.
